Custom Puff Printing for Apparel Brands
Add bold, tactile dimension to your garments with premium puff screen printing. A raised 3D ink effect that makes logos, text, and graphics stand out — built for streetwear, fashion, and premium brand collections.

Technique Overview
What Is Puff Printing?
Puff printing is a screen printing technique where a foaming agent is mixed into plastisol or water-based ink. When the garment passes through the heat tunnel during curing, the foaming agent activates — causing the ink to physically expand and rise off the fabric surface, creating a distinctly raised, three-dimensional texture.
The result is a print that you can both see and feel. Unlike flat screen printing, puff print adds a premium tactile quality to logos, wordmarks, and graphic elements — making garments feel more considered, more premium, and more distinctive at the point of sale.
Puff printing is widely used in streetwear, athletic apparel, casualwear, and premium private label collections. It works best on cotton and cotton-rich fabrics where the raised texture holds its form through washing and wear.

Where Puff Printing Works Best
Puff printing performs at its strongest on bold, simple designs with defined shapes .
Here are the most common and effective applications for global apparel brands.
T-Shirts & Graphic Tees
The most popular application for custom puff printing. Bold logo placements, chest graphics, and sleeve text all benefit from the raised tactile quality that makes a tee feel premium at first touch.
Hoodies & Sweatshirts
Puff printing on hoodies creates a signature statement piece. Chest logos, back graphics, and cuff branding all respond beautifully to the 3D effect — especially on heavyweight fleece and French terry fabrics.
Caps & Headwear
Small, bold logo puff prints on the front panel of caps and beanies add dimension that embroidery cannot achieve. Ideal for brands wanting a printed look with elevated texture and standout shelf presence.
Sportswear & Activewear
When used on performance pieces, puff printing adds brand identity to athletic collections. Works well on training tops, warm-up jackets, and shorts when applied with a slightly lower foam ratio to maintain flexibility.
Streetwear Collections
Puff printing is a defining element of streetwear aesthetics. Its 3D raised quality, bold graphic feel, and premium tactile experience make it the go-to technique for streetwear brands targeting fashion-conscious buyers.
Private Label Branding
Puff printing is ideal for private label collections where brand marks need to stand out. A raised logo on a label-free garment communicates premium quality — without the cost of woven labels or embroidery setup.

How We Produce Your Puff Print Order
Our puff printing process is managed entirely in-house — from artwork
preparation and screen production through to printing, curing, and quality
inspection on every unit.
Artwork Preparation
Your file is converted to a print-ready separation. We advise on design adjustments for optimum puff performance — line weights, fill areas, and minimum size.
Screen Production
A separate screen is produced for each print color. Puff printing uses a lower mesh count screen to allow the foam ink to pass through cleanly and consistently.
Ink Mixing & Printing
Foaming agent is combined with plastisol ink to your Pantone specification. The ink is pulled through the screen onto each garment with precise registration and consistent flood coverage.
Heat Curing & Expansion
Garments pass through a conveyor dryer at 160°C+. The heat activates the foaming agent, expanding the ink layer upward into its fully raised 3D state and curing it permanently to the fabric.
QC & Delivery
Every printed garment is inspected for raise consistency, color accuracy, and registration. Approved units are folded, tagged, and packed to your brand’s specifications.
Print Variations
Puff Printing Styles & Combinations
Puff printing can stand alone or be combined with other techniques for more
complex, layered designs. Here are the most common puff print options
we offer for B2B apparel orders.
Standard Puff Print
The core puff technique — a single layer of foam-additive plastisol ink applied to a garment and heat-cured to create a clean 3D raised surface. Best for logos, wordmarks, and bold graphic shapes on cotton and cotton-blend fabrics.
Puff + Flat Combo Print
Certain design elements are printed with foam additive (raised), while others use standard flat plastisol (smooth). This creates a contrast between raised and flat areas in a single design — adding depth and visual interest to complex artwork.
High-Density Puff
A thick application of foam-additive ink producing a taller, more dramatic raise height than standard puff printing. Creates an almost sculptural 3D effect — typically used for bold brand marks or standalone logo prints where maximum dimension is the goal.
Multi-Color Puff Print
Multiple ink colors can each be printed with foam additive, creating a multi-dimensional raised graphic where each color element lifts independently. Ideal for complex brand marks, illustrated characters, and typographic designs.
Puff + Glitter / Foil Combo
Combines a raised puff element with either glitter or metallic foil detailing in the same design. The raised puff creates structural depth while glitter or foil adds surface shimmer — a popular combination for fashion-forward streetwear and premium
Puff on Dark Fabrics
Printing on black or dark garments requires a white under base to be laid first, followed by the colored puff layer. This ensures color vibrancy and raise consistency on dark grounds — critical for streetwear brands who primarily work with dark colorways.

Compatible Garments
Best Fabrics & Garments for Puff Printing
Puff printing performs best on natural and cotton-rich fabrics where the foam
expansion can grip the surface and hold its raised form through washing. Here are
the most compatible options.
100% Cotton
The ideal substrate for puff printing. The foam adheres cleanly to cotton’s surface, expands fully, and holds its raise height through multiple washes.
Cotton-Poly Blend
50/50 and 60/40 cotton-poly blends also work well. Slightly lower raise height than 100% cotton, but excellent for budget-conscious production runs.
French Terry & Fleece
Heavyweight hoodies and sweatshirts in French terry or fleece are popular puff print garments. The thick fabric substrate provides a stable base for maximum raise
Canvas & Twill
Structured woven fabrics like canvas (used in caps) and twill (jackets, chino pants) accept puff printing for clean, defined raised marks on firmer surfaces.
